Lorentz Gullachsen is currently immersed in an exciting ongoing project, tentatively titled “Unique,” which focuses on capturing the essence of various artists through portraiture. “It’s a privilege to visually document the diverse talents and personalities that enrich our creative landscape, and I’m thrilled to announce that this project is being generously supported by Grey’s Teas“, Lorentz Gullachsen has expressed about his involvement.
A glimpse into an interesting world
One of the featured artists in this collection is the incredibly talented sculptor, Piotr Gargas. Lorentz says, “I recently had the pleasure of photographing Piotr at the Oxfordshire workshop he shares with fellow artist Martin Cash. This particular portrait aims to offer a glimpse into Piotr’s dedicated world, a space where raw materials transform into compelling forms.
Kingham Sculpture Exhibition
Adding another layer of interest to this project is the upcoming Kingham Sculpture Exhibition which runs from 17 to 26 May. Both Piotr Gargas and Martin Cash, who is also a subject within the “Unique” collection, will be working on-site at this noteworthy event. This presents a fantastic opportunity to witness their creative processes firsthand and support a worthwhile artistic endeavour.

Recreating the spirit of past artists
Piotr’s journey into the world of sculpture is fascinating. His five years of rigorous training in Poland instilled in him a deep understanding of classical techniques, including the meticulous study and replication of masterpieces. This foundation led him to a decade spent across Europe, contributing to the restoration of intricate stone features on historic buildings. This experience honed his ability to not only repair but also to truly understand and recreate the spirit of past artists.
While his restoration work might be playfully termed “cosmetic surgery” for stone, it’s this profound immersion that has nurtured Piotr’s own distinct artistic voice. Since establishing himself in Oxfordshire, working on the historic architecture of its colleges and churches, Piotr’s contemporary art has flourished. His practice now encompasses a wide range of materials, including wood and clay, and even ventures into the realm of digital sculpting.
Driving artistic creation
The “Unique” project is more than just capturing faces; it’s about documenting journeys, inspirations, and the unique perspectives that drive artistic creation. “Having Grey’s Teas on board as a sponsor is a wonderful affirmation of the importance of supporting the arts and the individuals who dedicate their lives to it”, Lorentz Gullachsen finishes.
