Self-Sabotage in Business

Overcome the fear of failure by cultivating a mindset of self-compassion and by embracing your competitors

In our competitive business world, self-sabotage can be a significant obstacle to success. One of the most common forms of self-sabotage is when we compare ourselves to competitors and then allow our minds to fill with thoughts about how we’re inferior to them and not good enough. This can lead to feelings of inadequacy, self-doubt, and ultimately, a lack of motivation, which is detrimental to success in business.

Our Coaching Roundtable event on self-sabotage

We held our first-ever Coaching Roundtable led by business coach, Kristina Rosenqvist, this month. We were in The Royalist room at Ellenborough Park before our September 2024 Cotswolds Huddle, and it was a great space for this event.

The topic for this Coaching Roundtable was Self-Sabotage in Business, something each of the 17 people around the table had experienced in one form or another. This event offered the chance to learn from our peers, share insights, and gain fresh perspectives as Kristina shared her coaching techniques to help us discover new strategies for success.

Don’t focus on your competitors

When we constantly compare ourselves to others, we risk falling into a downward spiral of self-criticism. We may focus on their perceived strengths while overlooking our own achievements. This can lead to a distorted view of our capabilities and hinder our ability to move forward.

To overcome self-sabotage, it’s essential to cultivate a mindset of self-compassion and acceptance. Recognise that everyone has their own unique journey, and comparing yourself to others is a futile exercise. Instead, focus on your own progress, celebrate your achievements, and learn from your mistakes.

Surround yourself with positivity

Another effective strategy for combating self-sabotage is to build a strong support network. Surrounding yourself with positive and supportive individuals can help boost your confidence and provide you with the encouragement you need to overcome challenges.

Befriend your competitors

Building relationships with your competitors can also be surprisingly beneficial. Instead of viewing them as rivals, consider them potential collaborators or mentors. By supporting and learning from each other, you can create a more positive and collaborative business environment.

Overcome self-sabotage

Remember, self-sabotage is a common challenge, but it’s one that can be overcome. By cultivating a mindset of self-compassion, building a strong support network, and focusing on your own journey, you can break free from the cycle of self-doubt and achieve your business goals.
