Behind ReCalm is founder Carla and more than 20 years of experience in holistic therapy and wellbeing.

Her journey began after reading a newspaper article about a blind therapist renowned for his Indian head massages. Inspired, Carla embarked on her own training, initially studying Indian Head Massage before going on to develop her knowledge across Clinical Reflexology, Anatomy and Physiology, Aromatherapy, Holistic Swedish Massage, Hot and Cold Stone Therapy, Japanese Facials, and Reiki.

At the heart of it all was a very simple ambition: to help people feel better.

The name ReCalm came later, during a conversation with her husband as Carla prepared to launch her therapy business. His suggestion was simple: ReCalm, because she helped to “re-calm” people.

It became a name that would eventually grow far beyond the treatment room.

∙ WHEN THE TREATMENT ROOM INSPIRED SOMETHING NEW ∙

As Carla’s therapy practice became increasingly busy, she began experiencing headaches and irritated eyes after long days in her treatment room.

She started looking more closely at the heavily fragranced, paraffin candles she was using to create a relaxing atmosphere and decided she wanted an alternative that better reflected the natural, holistic environment she was trying to create.

So she began making her own.

More than 100 test burns later, Carla developed her own combination of natural soy and coconut wax with pure essential oils, initially creating the candles simply for use with her therapy clients.

She called them “Therapy in a Jar.”

The candles proved popular with clients, and Carla’s experience as an aromatherapist subsequently led her to create her own treatment oils too. What started as products designed to complement treatments was gradually becoming something much bigger.

When the pandemic temporarily closed the therapy practice in 2020, Carla turned her attention to finding a way for clients to continue their self-care rituals at home.

ReCalm Holistic as it exists today began to take shape.

The brand now offers a collection of 100% natural, plant-based wellness products, handcrafted in small batches at its Wiltshire studio.

Its four signature aromatherapy blends make choosing a ritual particularly simple, with each centred around a different mood.

RELAX is created with rest, sleep, and meditation in mind. REJUVENATE is fresh and uplifting, designed for motivation and focus. RECOVER has an uplifting, herbaceous character centred around everyday wellness, while RECALM is the grounding, balancing blend at the heart of the original brand.

Once a favourite blend has been discovered, it can be enjoyed in different ways throughout the home, with products including hand-poured aromatherapy candles, pulse-point oils, botanical bath salts, room sprays, diffusers, and wax melts.
